I made this little crib quilt for my first ever great-nephew, baby Zachary.
I followed the Pinwheel Baby Quilt pattern from the Moda Bakeshop site.
I’ve never made prairie points before. I think they add a really sweet touch to the quilt, and they were really easy to make. I’ll do them again. I think the baby might like to play with them they way babies do with tags.
I used my brand new sewing machine to do straight line quilting around the pinwheels, and wavy lines around the border in yellow. Very simple, nothing fancy.
The fabric is a 4″ charm pack of 1930s reproduction prints. They were a gift from Dar at Dar’s Patchwork Garden. I’ve been saving them for something special. I think the 1930s prints are perfect for a baby quilt.
The backing is a from my scrap stash. I think it is a Japanese print, but I’m not sure.
Love your quilt…..prairie points points are such a beautiful addition to a quilt….wish I used them more.
Wow, what a wonderful, loving gift to both make and give! Are ‘prarie points’ those little flag things lining the perimeter of the quilt? Love them if so!
Ooh, I love this quilt, Nita. I took lessons at the local shop two years ago and finished my first quilt last fall. However, I haven’t touched my other started projects yet what with our move to a new home and going back to work after maternity leave. You are giving me the itch, what with that beautiful border of “prairie points”. What a fantastic idea for my new baby coming this spring! Thanks for sharing.
What a great little quilt! The fabrics go perfectly with the design. But it looks like you might have to make another one for Samson!
Wow our brother is a grandpa! I guess it sunk in seeing it in print……quilt is very cute, as always you did a great job.
I have this pattern..and forgot about it until I saw your post! I just adore your use of the 30’s…I have a whole tote of those…thanks for the inspiration to perhaps dig some of these out! This quilt is sure to be worn out by lots and lots of love!!!
I forgot you made this or I would have highlighted it…darn it!!! So glad you rejuvinated this post! Now I have to make it!!
So sweet! I love the colours! And even before you mentioned it, I was thinking those little triangular flaps will be so fun for a baby to play with. Awwwww!
